Helping you feel your emotions without losing yourself.
Allison Stewart, LMSW, LCSW
Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in Ann Arbor, MI
You want to feel less overwhelmed and anxious, but what you’ve tried hasn’t worked.
Maybe you’re tired of feeling flooded by thoughts or difficult emotions, or there’s a past trauma that still feels unresolved. Trauma and feelings feel trapped inside you, and everyday you’re in survival mode. You’re overthinking, worrying, or flooded with emotion, and even though you know you’re not feeling like yourself, you don’t know what needs to change to help you feel better.
I can help you find a sense of control in managing difficult emotions and help you build resilience for the future. We’ll work together to help you feel more regulated and get you experiencing life the way you’ve always wanted to.
How I Can Help
I help clients to unlock difficult feelings in the body and build resilience to manage those feelings in the future.
Feeling big, difficult emotions is frightening and can often lead you to feel overwhelmed or like you need to shut everything down. By reengaging the mind-body connection, we’ll work together to realign your body’s responses and get you feeling more in control so you can get back to living life the way you want to.
My Approach to Care
Addressing the Body’s Responses
I use Somatic Experiencing to understand how your body responds to stress, anxiety, and trauma. I’ll help you work through difficult emotions gradually, without feeling flooded, to help you build new neural pathways and respond differently when triggers or other strong feelings arise in the future.
Collaborative, Personalized Care
Determining a direction for your care will always be a collaboration between the two of us. While I’m trained in a variety of modalities, I’ll work with you to understand your needs and make sure that the direction we take is comfortable and honors where you are in your therapy journey.
A Relaxed Environment
Above all else, I want sessions to feel calm and relaxed. Even when the work we’re doing is difficult, I always try to make our time together feel like a respite, a place where you can be free to be yourself, get your needs met, and connect around what matters to you in the moment.
Find the Support that’s Right for You
-
Our bodies and our emotions are strongly linked, and processing difficult emotions through traditional talk therapy isn’t always enough. I use SE to help my clients tune in to their body responses to release, recover and recalibrate their body’s response to trauma.
-
Managing overthinking and worry tied to anxiety is exhausting. I help clients unpack their thoughts and preoccupations to gain new perspective and understand the link between those thoughts and their body’s responses.
-
Traumatic experiences leave a lasting impact on our minds and bodies. I work with clients to unpick their responses to past events and support with building their capacity to experience and weather difficult emotions tied to trauma.
